At Roseland Dental, we believe that a child’s early experiences at the dentist can shape how they feel about dental care for many years to come.
That’s why, wherever appropriate, we love to book our younger patients with Grace, our Dental Therapist.
Grace has a lovely way with children and takes the time to make their appointments relaxed, friendly and positive. For us, it’s not simply about checking teeth – it’s about helping children become comfortable in the dental environment and teaching them how to look after their smiles from an early age.
What does a Dental Therapist do?
Dental Therapists are qualified dental professionals who can provide a wide range of dental care.
For our younger patients, Grace can carry out dental examinations within her scope of practice, provide preventative care and oral health advice, and carry out treatments including fillings and the removal of baby teeth when required.
This means that children can often continue seeing the same familiar face for much of their routine and preventative dental care.
Prevention starts young
We would much rather help children prevent dental problems than have to treat them later.
During appointments, Grace can talk to children and parents about brushing, diet and keeping teeth and gums healthy, tailoring her advice to the individual child.
She can also provide preventative treatments such as fluoride varnish and fissure sealants when appropriate.
Most importantly, these visits give children an opportunity to get used to visiting the dentist when nothing is wrong.
Making dental visits a positive experience
We know that some children are naturally confident while others need a little more reassurance.
There is no rush and no judgement. Sometimes simply sitting in the chair, having a chat and becoming familiar with the surroundings is progress.
By building that relationship from an early age, our hope is that visiting the dentist becomes a normal part of looking after themselves rather than something to worry about.
